During my spriting years from 2005-2007 I spent a lot of time making backgrounds off of Sonic Advance 1-3 backgrounds, but I eventually moved on to customs. All of the five I have done so far can be seen on my DeviantART page, but I thought I might as well post them here, too. They are completely or mostly custom, unlike my spriting work. Flower Glen, 2007From my spriting years, but not a sprited background. Based on a picture I drew of a random glen with bright flowers and tall mountains. Made in MS Paint. Seaside Area, 2008A nice scene with a lighthouse, a boardwalk and cabins, based on Barnet Beach, a beach in my birthplace of Burnaby, British Columbia which I visit every summer with my maternal grandparents. Barnet has no lighthouse, but I like the look of a tower by the sea, so I added it. Coincidentally came before I thought of writing Sea Cottage. Made in MS Paint. Town Centre, 2008Same style as Seaside Area. Based on the municipal centre of Vancouver. Golden building is City Hall, and the red building is a theatre. Fences and pools, too, for good natural measure. Made in MS Paint. Back-and-Forth Desert, 2009An admittedly simple desert background. Got the idea from a feeling of slight depression I felt when my interest in spriting went down and the forum I first regularly visited began to die. Feeling a lot better now, partly because I chose to make a bright backdrop like this one. Made in MS Paint. Galactic Wood, 2009A turn away from MS Paint, made in GIMP (Gnu Image Manipulation Program). Use of advanced effects is obvious. The background is the only part not done by hand; it was provided by GIMP. Comment if you wish. I have not worked on these types of scenes in a while, but I may get working on some based on Sea Cottage if I feel the urge to draw. If I do do more, I will post them both on DA and here. Thank you.

New picture, ahead of schedule. WARNING: Sea Cottage spoiler ahead. From Chapter 40. If you have not yet read that chapter, view picture at your own risk.
"Now it is dark blue, but “it” has been redefined. The scene before my eyes, if one with a head that cannot be turned has eyes, is spherical, like a giant dome, like the skin of a Sharpedo. No jaws come out of this sphere, just silence… until there is a massive roar, and the dark blue sphere is accented by a massive web of electric blue lightning. Ahead is still dark blue, but now a screen again, except with something lower down, near the feet, if one who cannot turn one’s head is to have feet. That one at least has eyes. That one, I think, is me. I can see out of the corner of my eyes, the only part of me that seems to be able to currently move, a massive, endless field of parched yellow grass. The sky is a pure dark blue, but howling wind - explaining the noise from the black and grey scenes - and the occasional thunderclap and electric blue web add some colour to the scene. The grass sways in a light wind, and cracks, made brittle by something very hot, I suppose, like a wildfire." -- from Chapter 40 of Sea Cottage
So, Firmer is in the field in Chapter 40, entitled "Thunderous Sky". He has just arrived in the field of dry grass, and is currently unaware that he is dreaming. The lightning is giving him a message he cannot see. First to guess it correctly wins pride. Firmer was very difficult to draw, but I tried my best. This was the first time in who-knows-how-long, perhaps ever, that I attempted drawing a person on MS Paint. I know the shading is merely two-tone. I may go back to the picture later and add more shading, but personally I think the almost fluorescent brightness of the picture fits the environment, an electricity-filled field. Comments are very welcome and appreciated.

Ha ha, the lightnings spell "Jasmine". ;D
Firmer drawn in your style looks quite different from my style's Firmer. His hair is shorter, his clothes look different and his backpack is of different color. Oh well.
I think you should keep drawing pictures like these. The more you draw, the more you improve.

Firmer drawn in your style looks quite different from my style's Firmer. His hair is shorter, his clothes look different and his backpack is of different color. Oh well. His hair in this picture is relatively long, it is just mostly put behind his ears. His clothes are as I envision them and the backpack straps are silver, not the actual bag itself. Also, people rarely draw fan characters the same way. I drew Firmer as I see him, and you drew him your way, but I think it is just the style that is responsible for the differences more so than our views of Firmer, because both versions do look fairly similar. Thank you for the comments. Any ideas on what chapter I should try to draw upon next? Preferably an early one, in the first fifteen.

This isn't the art I inspired you to draw is it? I think you should draw the boat scene from chapter 14 (I think that is the boat chapter)

This isn't the art I inspired you to draw is it? Maybe. I was trying to draw for the last who-knows-how-long, so it may have been that I finally got over whatever hump was in my way. By the way, you still get your request since you won the Potential Fourth Pokemon Contest. I will not count the Chapter 14 boat scene as the request, though, since I asked you other members for ideas.

Dug up a couple of old-timers: Sandy Grove, 2007A beach based on nothing in particular. The trees are meant to look abstract. Hand-drawn in MS Paint. The blur effect on the sun was done in GIMP. Megalith Hill, 2009A couple of megaliths stand on a mountain slope. Hand-drawn in MS Paint, except for the sky backdrop, which was provided by GIMP. Going to write now, so no new backgrounds in a while.

Is it just me, or do the megaliths say "hi"?

It looks more like "ni", but it is quite close to "hi". That was unintentional. Good eyes, Quilteej.
