There's a different way to play Pokemon that's gotten very popular recently. You've probably heard of it. It's called a Nuzlocke Challenge. The idea is to do a self-imposed "Hard Mode" of Pokemon games, using special rules. The rules can be applied to any main Pokemon game (eg. Ruby, Blue, etc.), and go like this: 1) Any Pokémon that faints is considered dead, and must be released. 2) The player may only catch the first Pokémon encountered in each area, and none else. If the first Pokémon encountered faints or flees, there are no second chances. It's fairly common to nickname all caught Pokemon as well. You can also add additional rules if you wish, such as not using any healing items or not going to the Pokemon centre. I invite you all to give it a try and perhaps post about your exploits here. The Original Creator's Website, where he posts pages of his comic version of his challenges. "The point isn't to beat the game. It's about having fun. That's why it's called the "Self-Proposed Hard Mode", what kind of hard mode would it be without a way to lose? A lot of us had fun beating the actual games. And a lot of gamers play games for the Challenge- I would often challenge myself in Pokemon by vowing not to use any Pokemon I had used in the past, and by fighting the E4 when massively underleveled.
Challenges are what make games fun for a lot of us." - Gooman

Isn't "You are not allowed to catch a legendary. You may only defeat them." an official rule? I always thought it was, myself.
And I'm probably gonna try Nuzlocking on my FireRed or some other game I don't normally play anymore. It seems like fun.

I'm pretty sure nicknaming is also one of the official rules as well

Technically, you can make your own rules and everyone has a different nuzlockeing style ^_^ the only rule for everyone is the first one that dotty mentioned

The thing about legendaries is that you cant save in front of them. Kill it or run out of pokeballs, youre screwed.

I've been nuzlocking my Crystal not much luck though, I've already lost a Geodude to the Bellsprout.

I have never tried this and I never will. The whole idea is ridiculous, if you ask me.

I think this is a great idea. It adds a new level of difficulty and it mixes things up for a game series that can get repetitive and not too challenging.
I think I'll try this on Heart Gold later. Might be fun,

If you need a pokemon to have an HM and no one in your party can use it. You'd have to go back and catch one. Does that count?

Hmm. I guess there's no choice but to get another Pokemon. It shouldn't happen most of the time, though.

Hmm. I guess there's no choice but to get another Pokemon. It shouldn't happen most of the time, though. I just realized something. It IS possible to lose in pokemon completely. You get one pokemon right off the bat. But this pokemon can't learn all the HM moves. To get ones that can, you need to catch them. To catch them, you need pokeballs. To get pokeballs, you need money. If you buy too much of the wrong things, lose matches, and run out of trainers to fight, you could lose all of your money and be unable to get more pokeballs -> a pokemon to learn the HM -> the ability to use the HM.

And that's why Nuzlocking is not wise.
