Did anyone know about this rather shocking secret about FR/LG?
It appears that if you have a ripped copy of the games, the security for the game kicks in. It plays normally... Until you try to board a Seagallop Ferry.
Apparently, handing the guy a ticket, he'll say the usual things, but right at the end, he adds, "By the way, if you like this game, buy it or die."
Seems Nintendo is getting sick of their games getting ripped and put on the computer, doesn't it?

Yeah, It's kind of old news by this point. It is interesting though.
I wouldn't say that Nintendo or Game Freak were making a threat with this. It seems to be more like an in-joke, a silly idea one of the programmers had.
I would wonder if there are any other weird anti piracy methods floating about. I know Earthbound has a pretty cool one. It ramps up the spawn rates and at the final boss it hard crashes, forcing you to reset your console/emulator. When you boot it up again all your saves are gone. Hard luck for all those players who put hours put into a more difficult version of the game!

It sort of reminds me of that whole Konami code secret that's actually viewable from some websites, actually. I mean, it's there, and people never actually notice it. Like in this Panda Games website a friend showed me, putting in the Konami code makes the screen and letters flash. It reminds me of the security stuff that some games have... Really cool.

I'd seen that on Youtube, but thought it was a ROM hack 'til I read the Bulbapedia page a while ago. I know that B&W had a measure that disallowed Pokemon to gain experience, but hackers got around that quickly. Also, on the topic of the Konami code, inputting it on the Team Fortress 2 wiki will make a Spy appear and sap the logo. Always neat.

Michael Jackson the Experience for DS had the best AP of any game ever.
When you try to play Billie Jean(The first song you get) the game freezes and Vuvuzelas play over the music. I laughed so hard when it happened to me. Then I patched it. And played it. And it was terrible. Someone needs to make an Ouendan/EBA clone that doesn't suck.
Oh, that reminds me, Square Enix's DS games also have a lot of pretty silly AP.
In Chrono Trigger DS ANY TIME you enter a time gate, you'll see that trippy time traveling wormhole thing but you never leave. Ever.
In FF Crystal Chronicles RoF, the game will abruptly enter a screen that says THANK YOU FOR PLAYING forcing you to reset.
In Dragon Quest V you get on a Boat. And stay there. It just drifts in the sea. Forever.

Now I'm pissed that Cabinet's LP of Fire Red couldn't go on.

Some protections just sound weird, don't they? I'm surprised that there's not some protection for a cute video game that has demonic imagery and blood.
...Yeesh, the very thought of that just chills me to the marrow.
