You may have seen SJ's post in the "Things that make you happy" thread saying that us Mods were discussing the closure of these two threads. Well it's true, we are. Now I understand that some of you are a bit shocked and annoyed at these thoughts. But we have our reasons for that. This thread is for general discussion on the topic, should these threads be closed or not? It's late right now so I'll post my thoughts on the subject tomorrow at some time. All I ask is that you keep it civil. No decision has been made yet.

Sometimes I don't want to start a thread for something that will only garner a few comments (like the Borderlands thing a linked earlier). I'll admit to needing to be more thoughtful about what I post there, though.

I completely agree with that when the topic is big enough to open a new thread... I just like the ability to vent or say if I am feeling good... it is a pretty therapeutic process

I think its fine having them as they are. i mean not to be mean but we only got a couple dozen consistent posters (of which I am not one). The threads aren't being over run into the hundreds filling with irrelevant crap. might as well just leave the threads open unless they get completely out of control. which they aren't.

Close them. It's perfectly fine to make threads that are only going to get a few replies. Not everything can be the Pearl and Diamond thread. Most forums have threads the come and go and I see no reason that, just because we're small, we shouldn't have the same thing.

I vote for keeping them open. Everyone who agrees with me has made good points so far. When we post, we all just need to think that "Is there a better thread for this post than the Happy/Hate thread or should I make a new one?".
I say that we make a list of things that should not go into the Happy thread (you can actually post pretty much anything in the Hate thread, if you really hate it, unless it's really big news, and besides, it's not as bad if you get off-topic there as in the Happy thread).
At least these things have or should have threads of their own:
1. Anime/manga (that includes Pokémon anime and manga) 2. YouTube videos in the Links Discussion 3. Game-related topics in Gaming Discussion (if there isn't one about the game you want to discuss, make one) 4. Deaths (I say we make a Death thread, so we won't have to discuss anyone's deaths elsewhere) 5. Movies (we have a dead movie thread somewhere, but I think I'll make a new one myself) 6. School (I remember that one of us Mods said we should have a school thread, but personally I'm not sure if that's necessary - I think that success in school is perfectly acceptable to mention in the Happy thread and failures in the Hate thread)
That's all I can think of. Tell me if you want to change or add something.

Death thread... sounds promising
But other than that, it sounds like a good idea ^_^

Wasn't sure what to say, but after reading SJ's post, that sounds like a decent idea.

Maybe we should have a poll.

Yes, maybe we should.

I think what we really need is something in between a thread for every single thing and a single thread for every single thing. What I feel was a flaw of the Happy Thread is that it is too vague and all-encompassing. If I recall correctly the criteria was essentially "post things that make you happy" which, lets be honest, can be just about anything and everything. And the thing it chose to become was an image dump. I think we what need to strike is a middle ground. While we don't need a topic for every single thing, we don't really need 2 megathreads taking up all the attention either. These are my thoughts on it in any case.

Well, we already have threads for quite a few things that could be discussed in the Happy thread, but shouldn't. See my list.

I don't think having a list like that will be enough. I'm still voting for locking them.
