This is the new official movie thread. There's no point in bumping the old one.
I've seen many good movies lately. Most of them I've bought on DVD, but I've also been to the cinema quite often.
Last year I went to see Avatar, The Princess and the Frog, Alice in Wonderland, How to Train Your Dragon, Iron Man 2, Twilight: Eclipse, Shrek - Forever After, Toy Story 3, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 (twice) and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. I've bought all of them on DVD except for Avatar and Alice in Wonderland. My number one favorite of those movies is Harry Potter, and close second is Shrek - Forever After. The latter was much, much better than Shrek 3, and all the rest of the movies were also good. However, I've lost my interest in Twilight since I bought Eclipse on DVD, and I am not going to go see Breaking Dawns. You win, Cabinet.
This year I've went to see Megamind (the best DreamWorks movie I've ever seen), Tangled (the best Disney movie I've ever seen), Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (the most boring POTC movie, but still not bad), X-Men: First Class (one of the best Marvel movies EVER), Kung-Fu Panda 2 (not nearly as good as the first one), Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 (thrice), Captain America: The First Avenger (also an awesome Marvel movie), and lastly, I went to see Johnny English - Reborn last Thursday. It wasn't bad. I got a few laughs out of it, and Rowan Atkinson was hilarious as usual.
Edit: Oh yeah, I've also bought several other movies on DVD, like Watchmen, Bolt, Despicable Me, Kick-butt, Thor, The Lion King and Black Swan. I loved them all except for Black Swan. I only bought it because I'm a fan of Natalie Portman.
As you can see, I like animation, fantasy and superhero films. I don't like thrillers or drama, and most comedies don't amuse me.
So, have you seen any good movies lately?

Space Buddies.
I'm not a big movie person myself but I'm glad to hear that Atkinson's new movie seemed to be pretty funny by your standards. I'm a big fan of his Mr Bean stuff (Even if the France movie was a little lacklustre) and will probably try to make time to see it. If not I'll just get it on DVD.

Can I use this to rant about the Percy Jackson and the Olympians movie?

If it's a movie, then yeah. This is the place for it.

Well, time to talk about Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief... and rant about it. To start off, the book series is one of mine favorites and when I found out there was going to be a movie, I nearly shat bricks.... and then I found out who was directing, Chris Columbus, the man who messed with Harry Potter. Now, I don't need to explain that, but now to get to other points. Now, they book and movie about about 3 friends that go to a camp for demigods and they go on a quest to recover Zeus' lightning bolt. 1. The Characters In the book, the characters are 12, in the movie they decided to make them 16... which is actually a plot point for when they do become 16 in the 5th book. They even put Percy and Grover (the main character and his best friend who turns out to be a satyr) in a high school, when they are technically supposed to be in a boarding school. Now, there is one character that they obviously didn't really read up on, that would be Annabeth. Looks fine, right? Well would you believe that she is supposed to be blonde... which comes up a lot. She is supposed to use a dagger and not a sword, which is another plot point in the 5th book. They decided to not make her in love with Luke (another person at the camp that) and instead make her have more of a relationship with Percy. There were a few major characters they left out, like Clarisse, who is supposed to be Percy's rival at camp. Now the personality of Clarisse seemed to have gone to Annabeth for some reason. Back to Grover: in the movie, the actor has abs, in the books, Grover is supposed to be chubby. They gave Grover the dagger that I'm guessing Annabeth is supposed to have for some reason instead of giving him his pipe reeds. 2.Plot Points One of which is Percy's father: Poseidon. Now they aren't supposed to know he is Poseidon's son until after later events at the camp, however they just decided to have people at camp automatically know this. They even put in the scene where they discover he is his son, so what was the point in having them already know? Now, in the movie, they have them search for three pearls so they can escape the underworld after getting back the lightning bolt. In the book, they just went on straight there, now two of the three places they go to get the pearls were still in the books, and the events did happen. The one place they got a pearl that wasn't in the book was the Parthenon in Tennessee. Another was when they find out that Luke is actually evil. Now, they don't find this out until they return to camp and Luke attempts to kill Percy, but instead they decide to have them find out before returning the lightning bolt and having Percy and Luke fight over New York. Strange thing is, Percy is doing a bunch of crap he shouldn't be able to do yet. Percy and his mom are supposed to have a thing going on involving Percy's mom always making blue food, they forget this in the movie. Well, I'm done ranting, I could go on, but I'm sure this is enough to get the point across.

OMG THEY MADE A MOVIE ABOUT A BOOK AND IT'S NOT A LITERAL TRANSLATION! I didn't bother seeing Stormbreaker because I knew they slaughtered it. I didn't even have to see the commercials where there was a random love interest spliced in to know it'd be terrible.

OMG THEY MADE A MOVIE ABOUT A BOOK AND IT'S NOT A LITERAL TRANSLATION! I agree with what Goomane said, but I think the point Tiger was trying to get across is that, it wasn't even remotely close to the original novels, personally I can't wait for the Hunger Games movie to come out so I can sit there and laugh at all the mindless retards who've been obsessing over it for nearly 6 months now because the movie was a complete and utter flop.

Heh, me and my sister and mother watched the Percy Jackson movie online last year and we all hated it even though we'd never read the books.
Seriously, it was completely ridiculous. There wasn't one character I liked and most of the special effects were utterly stupid.

Yesterday I went to see Tintin with Comnurmi and we both absolutely loved it. It was definitely one of the best movies I've seen this year. Comnurmi enjoyed it even more than I did, because he has read the comic books.

Don't you guys watch any movies?
Yesterday I bought The Nightmare Before Christmas on DVD and I wasn't really impressed. The movie had too much singing and not enough seriousness for my taste. For some reason, classics don't interest me much.

I watched a bit of Gnomeo and Juliet. Missed the end, but it seemed pretty good for the first half.
(I spend a lot more time reading and playing videogames than watching movies.)

Watched Blazing Saddles for the first time yesterday. Mel Brooks is a genious.
I also saw My Big Fat Greek Wedding, but it hit a bit too close to home for me to enjoy that much.
