I don't really think the battles need spiffing up, I think maybe they should just be made a little more scarce. The battles are pretty cool, but lately it seems that 2/3 of the strips have all been battles and the plot is going nowhere fast as a result. Perhaps like, (considering that Brendan has just won another battle) you could switch back to May and/or Wally for a bit, focus the plot around them, then come back in on the tail end of another battle that Brendan has just won, allowing you to continue his part of the story instead of having to explain WHY he wins. It HAS kind of been determined by now that he's pretty good at battling and so it'd make sense to maybe skip a battle or two. Might save you some brainwork as well, instead of having to try and make all the battles interesting you could focus on the storyline and more of the funny stuff that you're good at.

That's what I was thinking. Turn based battles in comics can get quite boring and they prevent plot advancement. (And hillarious jokes!)

i think the battles are good and then later on in the story the battles should change after every gym Brendan does

i think you should skip unimportant battles like random ones! or at least put something like "one battle later"

Gym battle and rival battles I understand, but against minor trainers I agree it is less important. It can get especially long with Brendan's sand-attack strategy, which tends to make fights drag on with all the missing.

I know this topic hasn't had a reply in a while, but with regards to Pokemon battles, this double-team battle might be interesting. These types of battles are always fun in the game and I don't think I've seen one since Dual Duels, so hopefully, there won't be objections to another battle, right?

After watching the Pokemon shows for years, I think that instead of doing the turn-based battles, make them a little more realistic, too. Although the turn-based bit is evident, the 'Pounce attack' theme is really drawl. If two Pokemon are wrestling to beat each other up, they won't be tackling and running away. Tehy'll be wrestling, biting, and kicking at each other.

Recon doesn't model the battles after the show (but it's a good idea), he models it after the RPG, and as Brendan said in the early days of the comic in response to the taking turns rule: that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard! (Comic 78, about 4 years ago)
