Damn chaoman, compare the first and the second page. If anyone was in any doubt about there being spam on the forum then there's the evidence. No, it would reduce the chances of duplicate threads (hopefully) and confine spam in that area. Hmm, that raises a good point, should we keep this one so that we dont have to go through this with another spam thread (sorry if i'm just repeating what you said chaoman but i suppose what i'm saying is i agree with you)? As for the confining spam i think its the general consensus that the spam lounge did not do that and if anything it made the spam worse. I was thinking about this incident at a distance and i realised (sorry if this is stating the obvious) that the outcome of this event will be quite significant. If we do agree that the spam lounge is needed then it will most likely become a main point of the forum and if we decide the spam lounge isn't needed then after all this debating it is likely that a new spam lounge won't be created anytime soon and perhaps even a rule will be put against spam lounges. Also, While i was thinking about this at a distance (i know theres a better way to phrase that but i can't think what it is) i realised the argument isn't really for or against a "spam" lounge its against a spam lounge but its for just a lounge, a place for general discussion and should the lounge come back i think it should be named more appropriately and we should be discussing whether or not to have a lounge (if you feel you want a "spam lounge" then please disagree... intellegently). so the spam lounge is back yaaaah Alright now listen. I'm all for everyone joining in and giving there opinions but if you don't have any on the subject at hand then dont post. This is the "Spam Lounge's Future: DISCUSSION" if the thread is still open then we're still discussing. Just compare the first page to parts of the second, if you can't see that comparetively your post is spam then how you know how to spell is beyond me. This is't aimed at you Lord of the Fire! i know you did offer some opinions on the first page that were worthy but if this doesn't get niped in the bud then this thread will start to spam up and i'm quite confident in saying there is no way DC will open the spam lounge again if that happens. This is a place to discuss the spam lounge's future, if you liked the spam lounge then please think before you post, at least in here. So seriously! Nothing catastrophic will come of closing that topic... and the more you people make that argument the more I hope it stays locked... frick! While i agree with you that no one will start spamming just out of spite and that the spam lounge didn't contain spam effectively the spam lounge was a very popular thread and i think there may be some reprocussions if it closes. I see what you’re saying, but as to how much it will work? I don’t know. I don’t visit the thread much honestly, but believe it or not SOME discussion takes place. Maybe not as frequent, let alone as interesting, but it happens. Sometimes the line between spam and conversation can be a little blurred but if we remove the blatent spam (SPAM!!!!) that would mean that the posts would at least be relevant if still spam and we could work on rules from there (i wanted to say on an adhoc basis but i use that phrase too much so i resisted).

Just re-open the Spam Lounge. There’s no need for anything else. We also need an actual definition for “spam” because nobody has made it an official term, only opinionated relevancies to the internet history of other people. Nobody has made it clear about what caused the spam either. I could say that it was a few people. Nobody has solid evidence that could be linked as a dependent variable with spam levels and the Spam Lounge, so that’s only one BIG assumption that actually doesn’t establish anything other than “I just thought so”, which also translates into “Coincidence?” I was thinking about this incident at a distance and i realised (sorry if this is stating the obvious) that the outcome of this event will be quite significant. If we do agree that the spam lounge is needed then it will most likely become a main point of the forum and if we decide the spam lounge isn't needed then after all this debating it is likely that a new spam lounge won't be created anytime soon and perhaps even a rule will be put against spam lounges. That’s opinion. You can’t just say that it’s the main attraction because you get more posts there. People usually come to this forum to discuss the comic; in the actual discussion forum. I can say that Spriter’s Anonymous (will update that, btw) and Ideas & Suggestions are my main attractions because I care about the forum and want to see it thrive. Five years for a forum is a big achievement, no matter how many times it was inactive. Many forums can’t even last a year before they die, let alone a month. I know that subtracting the Spam Lounge from our daily nutritionally balanced internet browsing won’t kill it, but it might cause significant issues. That’s been suggested. We had an IRC made for it. The link is in my sig and you can’t spam there. It’s not exactly an apt comparison. Like it has been said, this is now a pretty relaxing forum. Being an idiot in the Spam Lounge is a great start, even a daycare for new people who can adjust and acclimate themselves there. In fact, I used to be one of those newtards. Let me share a little of my first days here; something you’d never find in my post history. So yeah, this is actually my home forum; the very first I ever joined. I thought forums functioned similar to IM chats where you were SUPPOSED to talk like an illiterate idiot, but of course it wasn’t. I was psyched to join a forum and participate in the community. Watching the activity (because my account wasn’t approved) I saw the Corrupted Wish Game. I felt the urge to feel included in something because like I said, I wanted to be in the community as a productive member. After my account was activated, I replied to that particular topic. Unfortunately, because I didn’t realise the game progressed to page 8, I assumed I had to “corrupt” the last post on that page; Rick Xeros’s. So I did and when I came back, I found out that I looked like a dumbass for posting that. Clicky to see what happens next. Out of embarrassment at the moment, I deleted the post and just lurked a little. No doubt if DemonicChocobo was a butt like some other forums love to act like, I wouldn’t be here right now, but he wasn’t, and I stayed. The POINT is, that if we have somewhere for people to spam and act spammish, there’s no repercussion for them acting as such, no reason to push themselves to be included somewhere. They just need to get the initial “hype” out of their system and they’ll simmer down and like/leave the forums. It’s not a flame-fest in the Spam Lounge and it welcomes others. Anywhere else and there would be at least ONE member who posts in the topic calling them a “n00b” as if they were born martyrs themselves. It’s inviting to new members, no joke. There’s always that urge to post something random, like a really funny picture, but they know if they post it anywhere else, somebody’s going to lay into them and name-call. It’s inexcusable or not worth the bandwidth to post a thread about the picture, so that’s why they turn to the Spam Lounge. Albeit, I do think nonsensical posts such as holding down a key until it reaches 3,000 characters in length should be scrapped, but part from those few issues, there’s really no complaint that can be fully substantiated for keeping it locked.

I'm quite tired now so i'll reply to chaoman's post later and any other posts that appear in my absence. The spam lounge should stay. Why? This is a discussion thread explain why you want the spam lounge to stay.

We don't need the Spam Lounge, because there's no reason to spam at all. Spamming is bad, and like Rick said, we're smarter than a bunch of retarded monkeys. Spammers may think they're funny, but really they're only annoying the hell out of everyone and in the end they're just causing trouble, nothing else.
So I hope the Spam Lounge stays locked.

To you, maybe. I admit that I found the Spam Lounge funny at first, but now I'm sick of it. It's a completely useless and stupid thread full of idiocy. We're better off without it.

It's a completely useless and stupid thread full of idiocy. To which I cite that not only are you the fourth top poster, but also remind you that you made another sub-point by re-iterating on a previous one. You already cited how spam was stupid/pointless/etc. So if there was a thread with the very word "spam" what did you expect it to be?

I'd expect it to be a free post anything thread.

Of course you're not. I wasn't talking only to you. It's a completely useless and stupid thread full of idiocy. I'd expect it to be a free post anything thread. And that would be spam, which didn't actually make your post out as a good issue >_> Nothing more than pointless spam. I guess. Exactly. I’m just curious as to why if somebody hates it so much, they can’t leave it be. It was pretty much a consensus that it WAS spam, not intelligent discussion. Usually, some folks tend to avoid things that annoy them, be it Rick Rolls, abused /b/tard memes, or general spam. If you look back, spam threads were still active, albeit with actual discussion…
