For those who aren't familiar with the franchise, Shining Force (the good ones anyway) are a series of turn based games with magical items, spells, weapons, and powerful warriors. What sets them apart from games like Chrono Trigger and the FF series is that, instead of a few people battling, you command in army like in chess. Unlike chess, instead of each side taking one turn, each character on the field can only move/attack/use item/whatever when it's their turn on their team's turn.

Although most of the turn based SF games are on the Genesis and Game Gear (SF Feathers is coming to the DS, though. WOOT!) I recently discovered the existence of Shining force 3 for Sega Saturn. Apparently, it plays over 3 disks and on each disk you are on a different side in a huge war involving political turmoil and religious strife. This plot differs vastly from the plot of the others where you fight evil demons and, apparently, each disk is its own game, but what you do one each different disk affects what will happen on the next one.
Since the Saturn was an underused system and only the first disk was released outside of Japan, only the most hardcore American SF fans or gamers have ever played all three disks. Those who have, I kid you not, have repeatedly said that the overall story is better than FF7's.
I've downloaded an emulator and am going to be playing the first disk of SF 3. If anyone wants to see the story without playing it, a link is here:

If you want a Sega Saturn emulator and a good SF3 rom (or isos as they are called) Google around for one you like.
