Swine flu is quite prevalent in British Columbia, but I am not going to get a shot. Needles have always given me complications for weeks afterward, and the swine flu (or, more accurately, H1N1) is one that is just like any other flu if the symptoms are controlled.
Still, it cannot be disregarded. I just do not think it is as much of a killer as the media claims it to be.

The media did bow it out of preportions. Here you would get a headline saying 'SWINE FLU TAKES YET ANOTHER LIFE' and you're interested. You want to know more. Then you find out the person who died was either a very old or a very young person with underlying heath symptoms. EVERY FREAKING TIME! (I dont mean to disrespect the dead. Im just saying the people who died were already sick. Their immune system was down and they could do nothing about it.) Another thing, I was in Egypt over the summer. Now when I got to the airport in Cairo there was a soilder giving out swine flu forms with a mask over his face. By the time everyone had gotten in he took his mask off and decided to watch some football.

Swine Flu = Seasonal Flu + Unreasonable Panic + A bit of potency.
Really, it's not like it's AIDS + Flu (not to make light of AIDS, or course), it's just Flu +.

My thoughts exactly, the media is just over emphasizeing the whole swine flu thing. It's all just media frenzy.

Neer having a shot. Ever since I cut my foot in 2007, I've been cautious around pointy stabby things...

My school is offering injections for everyone next week FOR FREE and I'm definitely getting one. I'm not afraid of swine flu, but it's better be safe than sorry.
Even though I hate needles... And the last time I got an injection, I passed out. And it wasn't the first time that happened. But still, I'm definitely gonna get my shot.

Hey guys remember our old friend the Bird flu? Remember the way that was supposed to be a pandemic? Remember the way .00001% of the population was sick? Yeah.
SJ, our school is putting them out for free aswell. But im still not taking it.
And on the topic of needles, Im sacred s***less of them. Last time I went to get one the doctor said he was just going to find the vein with thecap on the needle. I turned around to see what he was doing and I saw him poping the cap off. It took him and the nurse to keep me down so he could inject me.

You guys are lucky to have free shots offered. I think my university did that as well, but they told nobody about them until they started giving them out, and the period only lasted three hours. When I finally found out about the H1N1 inocculation availability, there were 10 minutes remaining of shots and a line up stretching a quarter the way across the massive Sciences building.
There are clinics a good distance from my apartment, but I am still not getting the shot. I seem to only have two allergies - dust, and needles. The latter might not be an "allergy", but it essentially has the same effect.

So we're all afraid of needles. Great...
I also hate the sight of blood. Real blood, not movie blood... I can watch movies with lots of blood in them... I just hate seeing it in real life.
But I'm still gonna get my shot. Just in case.

Though I do believe the media wants to blow this out of proportion to sell more, there's a reason why people are so scared of it. Around a third of the world's population is infected with a 10-20% mortality rate. And when we say pandemic, it doesn't have to be massive, but it's reasonable to be a bit frightened if we remember what happened in 1918.

Spanish flu? Now that was a pandemic.
I dont think 2 billion people would be infected with that level of Swine flu. one third is a bit too much. I would go for maybe one 10th
