A freeform/sandbox space-sim game, kinda like Freelancer (think that's what that other one was called). Has a bit of a steep learning curve (especially early one; 95% chance you WILL need the tutorial), but once you get the hang of it the game has plenty to offer. You can basically do whatever ya want; whether it be peaceful miner/trader, a hotshot racer/transporter, bounty-hunter/mercenary, or even a window washer... IN SPACE!!! The galaxy is your oyster; and with enough cash and the right resources, you can even have your own station... or two.
There's also several NPC factions you can either chum up to, shoot at, or be shot by. Also the ships can customized to a very great extent, both graphically ('cept paint... the paints suck) and mechanically. Even the same frames with the same engines/wings/etc. can be worlds apart in function and abilities.
Even the most mundane and boring of tasks can suddenly become pretty exciting (and dangerous). Like the afor mentioned "window washing" (solar panel cleaning), where one time I had to constantly shift about and make passes or else be sucked into a star. Or one time where I was transporting a passenger and had to run a gauntlet of enemies several times because the gate to the next system wasn't working the first couple times, forcing me to constantly weave and blast about the system until the gate was working again.
tldr: Evocrhon Mercenary is a difficult to learn but fun to play space-sim game with massive freedom of play and a lot of customization.
