This forum was... I forget if it was the first online community I joined, or if it was the first forum I joined (a long-defunct browser-based MMO called Chosenspace is the thing it's competing with, I didn't join the game's forums until a bit later). So it was a pretty formative time for me, being a precocious and utterly insufferable 12-year-old. Y'all are good eggs for putting up with my bullshit as magnanimously as you did. The over-centralization of info into discords is a shame (the fighting game communities I'm in in particular are incensed about how much info and tech is stuck in character-specific discords rather than being readily available online), but I would also temper that with the fact that most forums I've been on have a trash search function that barely works so I'm used to not being able to find things I'm also unsure the P-X discord had that much of an effect on the forums—maybe I joined it late, but it never even seemed as active as the old IRC used to be. I think the community's activity levels just got hit by entropy, in the end. The capricious whims of fate. also cabi your avi is *adorable*

I liked the trails quite a bit; they weren't trying to be hard before the boss battle, and usually did a pretty good job of being funny.
Chaining is also pretty easy, all your really need for most pokemon is a high-level false swiper with leftovers and a bunch of leppa berries (which are super easy to get a ludicrous amount of via the islands). The patience is really the key, you can pretty easily get one after an hour but sometimes it can drag on to like three. Chaining also gives you the benefits of better IVs (as in the more you chain the more perfect IVs the wild pokemon will have), which is mostly useful for getting a good set of breeding ditto's. Chaining dittos is kinda weird but very easy with a certain setup:
Lead off with a trubbish that only knows recycle so that ditto copies it, switch to a munchlax that switcheroos a leppa berry to it, bam you never have to worry about a it running out of PP and struggling to death. Switch to your false swiper, put up a substitute to prevent hidden ability dittos from transforming (oh yeah chaining also nets you hidden abilities), get to chaining.

I played a bunch of Pokemon Online back in the day with VenomFrog/Jafar and Swimming, but eventually lost interest because the comp Pokemon metagame is just kind of an eternal shitshow. I go back and play Showdown every now and again, but every time I quit faster as I get reminded why I didn't like it. Still think the "standard" mode of play should just blanket ban everything with BST > 550, and then spot ban issues below that (a la Aegislash and Wobbuffet) because legendaries and psuedo-legendaries are just so above the powercurve thanks to inflated speed stats.
I nabbed a couple of shinies because of how easy Sun & Moon made it. Cutiefly, Rockruff, Wishiwashi, and Lurantis, iirc. Meant to get Araquanid as well but stopped playing before that.

Actually, a theory I heard from the Dex youtubers makes me like Inceneroar a lot more: His deal is that he's a heel. Like, the very obviously over-the-top "bad guy" in wrestling theatrics, which explains why he's Dark instead of Fighting but still has the Fighter aesthetic, and if that's the case that's actually hilarious. Yeah, was a bit surprised it took people as long as it has to catch on. It's most likely based on the wrestling character/persona Tiger Mask. And dang, everything is a good choice for starters this time... but definitely still going with Popplio. Which is probably good since my team is probably going to end up Bug and/or Grass Type heavy again, heh. WWE has a very dedicated but very narrow fanbase. I know a couple of content creators I follow tweet a LOT about wrestling, but most people I interact with online probably know next to nothing about wrestling (myself included). So when we see the wrestler aesthetic it all just kinda looks the same.

I think Emerald is set something like 4 years after red and blue? So Wally might just be a late bloomer teenager.
I'm somewhat horrified that there's another Water/Fairy coming after what became of Azumarill, but the design is pretty cool. Decidueye is growing on me, and I was on team Rowlet since day one, so that's good.
Inceneroar, in which they had already put the DAMN WRESTING BELT ON and then went "oh crap look at all the fire/fighting memes quick make it fire/dark instead." Ugh.

Wait, water compaction sharpy raises your defense when you get hit by a water move?
...maybe useful as a surf partner in doubles, maybe, but boy that sounds useless.
