One has to wonder if this pokemons special quality would have any effect on the other stages of his evolution... and further more this defect in appearance better have some kind of interesting effect on his stats (or moves) otherwise I remain unimpressed by it...

Potential proof of a half-way point between evolutions? It's understandable that the games' rendition of evolution has always been a three-second instant transformation into something completely different, but I always imagined that Squirtle began taking on some characteristics of Wortortle somewhere along the line, and that evolution was the final severance from one specie to the other.
Hence why a prematurely-evolved Magikarp would retain its coloration as a Gyradose; gradual transformation, rather than instantaneous magic. You could imagine the size of my frown when Sinnoh canonized the transformation sequences as more than just a video game translation of a longer process.
Perhaps, though, this mutant Pichu is a sign that there does exist some halfway point. That, throughout its maturity, it makes little changes here or there. A kind of Poke-Puberty if you will.
Course, sometimes a Freudian symbol is just a Freudian symbol, and it's either merely a mutated freak or damaged.
To touch on Rick (Mmmmm, tasty Rick), I'd be even more unimpressed if every defect brought on a noticeable change in future evolutions, stats, etc. Future evolutions I can understand, perhaps; a scarred ear isn't going to heal just cause your ear grew an inch.
However, a defect such as that is merely superficial. It makes the Pichu unique, to be sure, but only so much as other superficial features go. There isn't so much a difference between the abilities of male and female Pokemon, and shinies, which carry a lot more than a mere nicked ear, are completely indistinguishable, stat-wise, from their mundane counterparts.
If anything, the gender variations among species as introduced in newer games comes right out and proves that your gendered Pokemon can have larger or varying features from each other with no benefit nor handicap to distinguish them.

I'm just buying SoulSilver for the heck of it. I LOVED the second generation. And yay for SJ! Who are you going to choose as your starter?

I'm just buying SoulSilver for the heck of it. I LOVED the second generation. And yay for SJ! Who are you going to choose as your starter? Chimchar. I already have Empoleon in Diamond, and I don't want Torterra. I should probably mention that I won't start playing Platinum the day I buy it, though. I promised my friend that I'd borrow my DS and Platinum to him so he could play it too. I'm only gonna have one game in Platinum, so my friend has to play it before me. So once he has beaten the Elite Four and maybe tried his luck at the Battle Frontier, he'll give Platinum back to me and then I'll restart it to play my own game. So basically I still won't play Platinum for a while, but once I do, I'll draw pics about my Platinum team and character and upload them in my art thread. It will be fun.

Has anyone heard/seen anything about new movepools for the games? If there are big changes, I'll be buying them.

Seeing as they just announced this thing, latest video being a bunch of natives wowing over walking around in a square, it MIGHT be a little while before details fully emerge. I give it at least four months since announcement.

Well, you don't have to sit through them. Just don't read this thread if you don't want to suffer from 39 pages of spam.

What I meant was, all updates Serebii, Psypoke, and Smogon'll be doing are pointless pics or factoids that have no baring on battling.

the new game has to do something about the timeline if you starting in newbark town, think of it...gold and silver had a time warp machine to kanto. and by that time, sinnoh wasn't there...so somehow SS and HG has to be compatble with all games, or are they taking out the pal park feature? ......... .......... ............. Im confused

The popular idea is that Gold/Silver, three years advanced from Red/Blue, takes place at or around the same time frame as Diamond/Pearl, if that means anything to you. I don't think the time capsule will play That big a role in Heart Gold/Soul Silver. It didn't play a big role in the second generation games anyways, either; it was just a means of getting first-gen mons into the second-gen.
