I hate to admit it but I have to give this to Ash mostly because he is a good strategist as previously stated above.

My opinion. Take it or leave it.
There's no way you can really compare these two. First of all, Brendan can only use what the game allows you to do (I.E. No beating Geodudes with Pikachu), while Ash uses ridiculous things that are impossible in the game. So if they are the same point in training, AND Ash couldn't use any strategies that are impossible in the game, then Brendan would win. Hands down.
And yes, I realize that a shiny uber Mightyena is impossible in the game, but my point is that Brendan can't gain any advantage from his surroundings or the other pokemon's weaknesses (I.E. Rhydon's horn as mentioned earlier).

Brendan got a Draw after Rocky was knocked out. You can't do that in the games. So my vote is still with Ash.

I think Ash is a much better battler than you guys take him for. He has a tendency to use Pokemon that are weak against the opponent's type, but still come out victorious due to clever tricks he pulls off. Seriously, the way he improvises various moves to completely turn a match around requires at least SOME level of strategy.. I agree. I think Ash is an excellent battler. Thunder Armor and Counter Shield are brilliant strategies, and Ash's tendency of overcoming type AND level disadvantages is most impressive. His Pikachu has defeated at least two Raichu (maybe even more, I'm not sure) and his Buizel defeated Wake's tough Floatzel. Things like that are possible in the games, but when it happens in the anime, it's really something to be proud of. There's no way you can really compare these two. First of all, Brendan can only use what the game allows you to do (I.E. No beating Geodudes with Pikachu), while Ash uses ridiculous things that are impossible in the game. Perhaps, but you have to remember that Ash's Pikachu knows Iron Tail, so it can beat Geodude quite easily. And it's also possible in the games. So if they are the same point in training, AND Ash couldn't use any strategies that are impossible in the game, then Brendan would win. Hands down. That's true. If Ash existed in the comic, he would take a beating for sure. But if Brendan and Ash had a battle in the anime, Ash would win. And yes, I realize that a shiny uber Mightyena is impossible in the game, but my point is that Brendan can't gain any advantage from his surroundings or the other pokemon's weaknesses (I.E. Rhydon's horn as mentioned earlier). You're half right. If you're lucky enough to find a shiny Poochyena with a perfect nature in the game, you could EV train it and then it would be just as strong as Rocky. You also have to remember that Brendan doesn't know anything about EV training (and it's a good thing too - if he did, the comic would be REALLY boring), so maybe Rocky will never reach his maximum stats. Or maybe he has done that already, I don't know, but it seems unlikely. But yeah, in the games it's impossible to gain advantage from the battlefield (rocks, tall grass etc.), so Brendan has to rely on pure power alone. Of course, he sometimes uses moves like Sand-Attack to improve his chances of winning, but things like that are not fool-proof. So far, however, his strategies seem to work, because Sand-Attack is more effective in the comic than in the games.

Can't use the surrondings? The sandstorm-covered route and snowy routes are using the terrain for the right poemon wuth the right abilites.

Those dont count because I blieve the refrence was to how Ash would jump into the water of a Water Gym and used that. Or he had his pokemon jump off of rocks and whatnot.

If I had to choose I would say Ash, simply because he has more experience and does more often than not come up with creative ways to win battles. Brendan is not an awful trainer, and his 2-1 first-time record at gyms is better than what Ash did in his early career, and I can see Brendan becoming champion with enough stubborness and dedication.
Still, at this point in time, I think that Ash is overall a more complete trainer and Brendan may very well prove himself to be inferior in my eye once he gets further on. He could just as easily prove to be stronger, though.
EDIT:
If the vote is based on the assumption that Ash is just about to challenge his fourth gym, I would say Brendan. I should have read the first post more carefully. >_<
2ND EDIT:
Ash wins eight votes to six! Close! Personally I saw this coming. Brendan does not have to feel sad though; give him some time and he could prove himself.

Ash beat Brendan! Sweet! But of course, I knew he was gonna win. He is way more experienced than Brendan.

Keep in mind, the sprite comic and the anime work differently. The battling system of the sprite comic is pretty much the same as the games. The anime tries to be more realistic.
I'd say Ash would win though. The dude has way more experience under his belt, and is a far better strategist.

keep in mind that brendan has a double pokerus dosed mightyena and his move random could pull anything out of his hand, any attack like blast burn, magnitude etc And ash probably after sinnoh will catch other weak pokemon there starting it again, and they will be too weak for brendans pokemon

Read the rules, new guy. Don't post in old threads without a good reason.
And learning proper grammar wouldn't hurt either.
