So I've been gaming alot lately and i thought "hmm i feel like doing some game reviews" but being a guy without a job and won't have one for like 3-4 months, I'm having to make do with my PC, DS, PS2 (Retro =D) and Wii. So for now I'll be doing gaming reviews on accessible to me on these consoles. So to begin with my first review i give you... *drum roll in background*
Need For Speed Underground 2.
Now for those who don't know I'll do a little background info
The Need For Speed Series was first published on August 31st 1984 from game developers Electronic Arts. It has been the most successful racing game series and one of the most successful overall game series as well. First created by Canadian based company EA Black Box. It was first released for the PC(DOS) PlayStation and later the Sega Saturn. The Original Need for Speed along with Need For Speed: Special Edition were the only two games from the series to run on DOS for the PC and therefore following games from the series for the PC were run on Windows 95 or above.
I would continue to do more but there are so many games to cover with latest installment for the series being released only 4 days ago titled Need For Speed:World with this I will continue with my review of the game.
Need For Speed Underground 2 was the commercial revamp to the previous game Need For Speed Underground It was the first game in the series to feature a full map which you were able to roam around in. (Much like the GTA series) It also featured new modifications to add to the vehicle such as a sound system and Televisions, these had no affect on the car what so ever and were merely for flash. but other modifications added a whole new effect such as spoilers and body kits as well as carbon fiber mods. These would constantly affect the weight, down-force and overall performance of the car. With these new additions it brought the series back to life. Three new ways of racing were added which included the Underground Racing League or URL as it is referred to in the game, Street X which is much like the drift tracks just without the drifting part, and Outrun which was were you would verse a rival NPC and try to put distance between you and them, Outrun was done outside of races while roaming the map.
Personally i feel the game is to easy to begin with, it does get harder as you go, but playing through my first 15 or so races i found i didn't need to upgrade from my car, but the detail of the cars is great, i have graphic settings at about 3/4 way to max and it's very well detailed.
Overall i think it's a decent game that brought back to life a series well worth doing it too. The only thing i miss from past and later games is the police chases, it just lacks challenge during alot of races. I'm giving it 7.5 / 10
now for some lovely screen shots =D
