Last night was one of those nights. You know the one, where an idea pops into your head and you have to write or down, and you can't sleep until you do. Well, I came up with an idea, and upon looking at it further in the morning, I realized it wasn't fully fleshed out. What resource better to help me out than the collective mind of the internet?! I thought. So here I am. Exposition over.
Anyway, there are plenty of survival shows out there. Man vs Wild, Survivor Man, so on and so forth. But those are all based on getting out of the wild, not how to survive in it! So I came up with the idea to have a show that would go over aspects of survival in the wilderness, with a different topic each week. Here's the short list of topics I came up with.
Making a fire without a lighter or matches
Finding/purifying water
Building a shelter
Hunting and tracking
Building traps
Dressing a kill (Do you know how to clean and gut a boar?)
Fishing without a rod/ how to make a serviceable rod
Foraging for food
Wilderness cooking
Weather signals and dangers
Deterring predators
First aid
Signaling for help
Wilderness nutrition
Tools
Weapons (bow/arrows, knives)
Staying sane and entertained
So, what do you think? Am I a weirdo, who needs to get checked out, or is this an interesting idea for a discovery channel show? Tips? Suggestions? Ideas for content? Give me your best criticism, and your wildest ideas, because I can only be so imaginative.
P.S. I'm one of those nutty kids who likes the great outdoors enough to spend some 300 nights camping in the past 8 years, so don't be too harsh.
