Damn, those are some ugly names. I mean, I expected them to begin with letters X and Y, but still.
They're certainly... awkward to say the least.
Well, we'll get them rolling off our tongues eventually.
You don't get it? The name of the first new game is Pokémon X. Ring any bells?
...Oh
I can be really slow sometimes, hahaha~
I know what you mean. This place has been dead for ages. We've had nothing to talk about until now.
Here's to a new era of talking!
Right, I'm gonna analyse the trailer a bit now, since there's some stuff that isn't immediately obvious.
So we start off with Pikachu saying about big news and stuff, and it's really easy to just skip over this part, but as the camera zooms out, you can see
what appears to be a structure based on the Eiffel Tower.
I didn't bother to cap it, but as we zoom out even more to the globe, it's pretty clear that the lightning bolts are coming from where France would be on Earth.
This plus the fact that Junichi Masuda visited France recently makes it fairly clear that the new region is based on
Germany France.
Next up, we have a shot of the male protagonist in front of a suspiciously large mirror.
Could it be for character customisation?
After that, we're shown this.
Which is apparently Route 3, if that sign's anything to go by.
This would mean that the region is far enough away from any other region that it gets to start from Route 1 again.
Francefrancefrance
Less obvious is the rather lovely architecture in that town over yonder.
Not much to say about this one, other than it looks like a Grass or Bug gym.
Here's friendly neighbourhood female protagonist.
Both genders wear eyewear on their hats for some reason.
Now here's something interesting.
The male protagonist is clearly skating here, so the Running Shoes might be getting the boot.
As long as they're faster, I don't mind.
oh yeah and noteiffel tower again
The statue in this one depicts a Golurk, a Palpitoad and... some other things I can't make out.
I'm curious as to the significance of these, since it's kind of gen six and you'd think they'd be using gen six Pokémon in any statues.
We then get this rather peculiar shot of a deserty-wasteland place.
And it's uncomfortably reminiscent of Orre.
At this point, the trailer introduces the starters, and by golly, what starters they are!
Chespin is great because it has a
creative and
original design. P.S it is adorable.
Fennekin is great because it's design is
informed. They have done the research and it shows.
Froakie is great because it's design has
potential. There are any number of things there that evolutions can take further, similarly to Oshawott's scalchop eventually becoming Samurott's mighty seamitars.
As far as I'm concerned, those are the three aspects of great Pokémon design.
Anyway.
Skipping the battle stuff, because that is pretty self-explanatory, we next see a forest.
By far the most interesting thing here is that the character following the protagonist appears to be
Rosa.
What this means is beyond me, though if it truly is her then this region could be to Unova what Johto is to Kanto.
Then we have what seems to be two gyms.
The first is the trippiest gym I've ever seen, so it'll probably be Psychic or Dark.
The second one looks like Bug and could well be the same one as the jungley place from earlier.
Since this seems way too over the top for a gym, it'll probably be an Elite Four member or one of the legendaries' chill (not so chill) hangouts.
Here we have, uh... Xerneus, is it?
I guess I just wanted to point out that its pupils are "X"s.
Curiously, uh... Yveltal's eye's are not "Y"s.
Hopefully, the reasons for these will become clear later.
Last of all, there's the logos.
No big deal, right?
Right.
The Japanese logos on the other hand...
...As you can see, they incorporate a little double helix into each logo, indicating that first, the X and Y refer to chromosomes, and second, that DNA and genetics will be playing a big role this time around.
That's all I have to say about that.
Hopefully there was something in there that you didn't already know.
If not, oops, haha~
This long spiel was brought to you while drinking a favourite of mine:
